2012 HISTORY

The International Day of Heavy Metal was created by Iron Mathew Collins for all metalheads around the world to celebrate the best genre of music ever invented; Heavy Metal.

Many international days exist for this and for that, but not for heavy metal music. So, at the start of 2012 Iron Mathew, an avid fan of metal and rock music, decided to create one, and so the concept of the International Day of Heavy Metal was born. The date had to be one that would be memorable, Iron Mathew decided on 12/12 with the inaugural date, 12/12/12.

A Facebook group, a Twitter account and an official website was launched in February 2012 and quickly gained a following from dedicated metalheads from around the world.

Riffs Bar in Swindon held a concert to launch the inaugural day featuring the Sanity Days, Severenth and Twisted State of Mind. Click here to view the event poster.

Dave Wakeham, vocalist and guitarist for Wakeham's Terrortory, wrote a blog 'What Heavy Metal Means To Me'. Read his blog here.

In 2013, the Lady Luck music venue held a concert to celebrate the day. Click here to view the event poster.
